Life in contemporary western society is comfortable, fully of opportunities and distractions. Our daily lives are packed with technological attention grabbers that initially offers stimuli that gives us something new and exciting, a kick. I love them and use them far too often myself. But I do know that these gadgets – while using benign phrases such as “connecting” and “friends” and “likes” actually aim to harvest our attention and remove us further and further away from our surroundings, our physical communities and, ultimately, from being in touch with ourselves. Use the gadgets by all means! But as a tool that is in your control, on your terms and be protective of your attention. It is valuable and has its own power.
