From a young age I believed that nature has an answer for everything. Whereas this is a simplification and possibly a bit of a platitude, there is still some truth to be found in my youthful philosophy. Our bodies only thrive when we are in homeostasis – when our biological systems are regulated – and nature works on the same principle. If there is an imbalance in our system, our body activates all possible processes in order to tackle the imbalance and bring back the natural state. The large the imbalance, the harder the body has to work. But the ability of the body to heal itself is truly mind-blowing. Nature reacts in a very similar way. If a tree is struggling to get enough nutrients a lichen by the common name “old man’s beard” can attach itself to the tree and help it draw nutrients from light and air. Incidentally if the “old man’s beard” withers it can be a sign that the air is polluted and not fit for trees or humans.
We are part of nature and nature is part of us, I’m stating the obvious here but at times it can appear that we have forgotten this simple fact. In this blog I will share some remedies derived by our natural surroundings that can assist our bodies in healthy living.
